Chikku Bukku

Well, it’s gonna be a romantic fiesta bounded with glitz and glamour for Aarya who should’ve been drenched with more and more tough times while shooting for ‘Naan Kadavul’. His forthcoming film ‘Chikku Bukku’ will feature Arya in lead role while debutant Preetika Rao, (the sister of Amrita Rao from Bollywood) and Shriya Charan are starring opposite him in the female lead roles. Followed by the grand success of ‘Dhaam Dhoom’, Media One Global Entertainment produces this film.

Director Manikandan who undertook the completion of ‘Dhaam Dhoom’ after the demise of his mentor Jeeva directs this film. Colonial Cousins, Leslie and Hariharan are composing the music. The shooting of the film has already commenced at Karaikudi. Shooting will continue in Coonoor, Mysore and later in Austria.

Aanandha Thandavam Review

The much awaited and anticipated film, the story of which is based on Late Sujatha’s Pirivom Sandhippom has finally arrived. But Aanandha Thandavam produced by Aascar Films does not live up to the expectations it had raised in the minds of Sujatha’s fans.

A few decades back the infection that plagued parents to
Aanandha Thandavam
get their daughters married off to ‘America-settled' bride, reeling under the ‘foreign craze’, without checking on the credentials and later landing in a deep quagmire form the central plot of Aanandha Thandavam directed by Gandhi Krishna .

Debutant Siddharth as Raghupathy, son of Govindaraj (Kitty), a supervisor with a state government office, falls in love with Madhumitha (Tamanna), daughter of his dad’s boss Gopinath. She also appears to be in love with Raghu. Although Gopinath approves of this love and promises his daughter’s hand in matrimony to Raghu, he does a complete volte-face when Radhakrishnan (Rishi) from America materializes from nowhere. Raghu gets royally betrayed when Madhu and Radhakrishnan get married and leave for America and the film moves to the US of A. What happens to Raghu, Madhu and Radhakrishnan there forms the rest of Aanandha Thandavam.

Director Gandhi Krishna’s intention to adapt a novel into a film is good. But he seems to have gone wrong in selecting a contemporary theme. His tenacity in sticking to the original word by word may have worked perhaps in the eighties. The character portrayal of Madhumitha lacks conviction and strength. She appears to be an enigma and is a bundle of contradictions. Sometimes she is so naïve while in some other occasion she is highly sophisticated which confuses the audience.

Performance wise, Kitty, Siddharth’s father steals the show with his practical and pragmatic approach to life. Rukmini of Bommalaatam fame is the other girl in America who falls in love with Siddharth. She proves that if given the right opportunity, she will be an actress to look out for. Tamanna, the latest hot property of Kollywood with a release a week has understood her role and tried to do justice. Siddharth has a long way to go.

The songs Pattu Poochi, Kangalil Aadum and Kana Kaangiren numbers are a treat to the eyes. Lensman Jeeva Shankar’s attempt to capture the lush greeneries in an unadulterated fashion needs special mention. Thotta Tharani’s art work comes to the fore in Kangalil Aadum song. Dialogues by Sujatha and Gandhi Krishna stand out especially in scenes that talk about Indian American culture.

Much was expected from Gandhi Krishna, but he seems to have let down the audience.

Verdict: This Thandavam is missing the Aanandham!

Vettaikaran Special

The Anushka–Vijay starrehttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifr Vettaikaran, whichstarted in the first week of March 2009, has a latest entrant. Late director Jeeva’s erstwhile assistant Srinath will don the role of a comedian in the flick. Srinath is, however, not new to comedy roles as such. He has already been featured in almost all of Jeeva’s movies, prominent ones including Dham Dhoom and Unnale Unnale. Srinath is currently directing Muthirai, which features Nithin Sathya, Daniel Balaji and Laksmi Rai.

Vettaikaran, on the other hand, is constantly in the news as one can see. The movie was recently in news with Vijay’s son making a fleeting cameo appearance in the title song.

ASAL UPDATES NEW

Prabhu Ganesan remembers how he approached Ajith Kumar for his next production venture.
‘It was during ‘Billa’ shooting I was chatting with Ajith and asked him whether he would be interested in doing a movie under Shivaji Productions. He immediately replies yes with a smile. After that he didn’t ask me to visit his house instead he came to my house to hear the whole story. When we made the title like ‘Ajith in Asal’ he requested to make it as ‘Prabhu’s Asal’ and his name below that. I admire his simplicity, devotion and respect. After Rajinikanth I see these qualities in Ajith Kumar’ said the excited producer and son of legendary actor Shivaji.
Super star Rajinikanth also congratulated the team saying that ‘Asal’ will be a great success

Aayirathil Oruvan Songs

The album has 10 rocking songs, which is sure to be lapped up by the youth.

Meanwhile the buzz is that Selvaraghavan is planning to have a grand audio launch on May 1 at Nehru Stadium where he will have a live performance of the songs by singers.

The film is undoubtedly going to be one of its kind as such action adventure films are rare to Tamil audiences.

SRIDEVI

Asin spells success, everywhere

We’ve known her as a model and an enchanting actress. But the bubbly young actor has a relatively unknown side to her: she is an ace in interior designing. Asin, prior to joining the film industry, was also an acclaimed entrepreneur. She was also the recipient of the Young Entrepreneur Award in Kochi.

But what is surprising is that, despite her hectic film schedule, the actress is said to keep her company running, with the help of her father and other relatives. Her father, however, has joined her in Mumbai recently to take care of her film career and her entrepreneurial adventures seem to be left in the lurch.

Her spell in Bollywood, however, has taken to a great start and offers are pouring for her, as she is regarded as the lucky actress.

Unnaipol Oruvan

Finally, here’s official news about Kamal Haasan’s next project, originally titled 'Thalaivan Irukkinran', which has been now renamed as 'Unnaipol Oruvan'. Shooting for the film, which is being made in Telugu as well as 'Eenadu', has begun today at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad.

A sneak preview of the film has been made available, and it features only Kamal Haasan in a bearded look with spectacles like he was in ‘Nammavar’. The film, a remake of the Bollywood super hit ‘A Wednesday’, is jointly produced by his Raj Kamal Films and UTV. The film has him playing the role of Naseerudin Shah’s and Mohanlal does Anupam Kher’s role. Music for ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ is by none other than Kamal’s daughter, Shruthi Haasan, and the trailer of the film has her humming in the background.

Chakri Toleti, the boy who played the child in Kamal’s film, ‘Salangai Oli’, is debuting as the director through this film. Interestingly, Chakri also played the role of Kamal’s friend Ram in ‘Dhasavatharam’.

Arasa Kattalai

Actor Prabhu, who has turned himself into a formidable supporting actor, has taken the plunge as a hero again. This time, it will be for a historic thriller, called 'Arasa Kattalai', which was launched this morning.

After donning the greasepaint from roles like “Vaddi” in 'Vasool Raja MBBS', Senthilnathan in ‘Chandramukhi' and 'Kuselan', apart from his recent role as Das in 'Ayan', Prabhu is playing the protagonist in 'Arasa Kattalai'. Directed by a new comer V. Kishore, the film is being produced by Kanmani Creations and Varsha Media, and was launched in AVM Studios this morning.

The film, said its director, had a very strong historic script, and would shoot Prabhu’s portion form early May. Another new face from Kerala is getting all set to be launched as the heroine, while Shobana plays an important role. Shivanesan, a former assistant to AR Rahman, is being launched as a music director and the film has five songs.

Shooting for the film began with a song in AVM itself, with a huge Dhaba set, the crew is expected to move to Bangkok to shoot a few songs. New comer Senguttuvan handles the camera.

Suriya’s restriction to fans

Suriya-starrer Ayan, which hit the screens recently, has turned out to be a blockbuster. Though the star is happy over the film’s outcome, he is apparently perturbed too - the reason being the mobile number that he mentions in Ayan as his. According to Suriya, the team chose that particular number after ensuring that it was not working. But to their dismay they have found that it belonged to a bank employee, Raja.
Disturbed with over a number of calls everyday asking for Suriya, Raja got in touch with the actor’s manager to sort out the issue. He also expressed his inability to change the number as he had been using it for many years. Feeling responsible for Raja’s plight, Suriya has now requested all his fans not to contact the mobile number

Nayan’s other side

Nayanthara the most successful star of Kollywood has revealed the real shade of her. Please don’t jump to conclusions. The Malabar lass has divulged the philanthropist and humane side of her in two unrelated incidents. Thought the actress was keen to keep under wraps, the incidents somehow leaked.

Venkat Manikkam who was a production manager for Ayngaran films and Kalpathy Agoram films and who has also worked in Villu was suffering from brain tumor and is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital. When Nayan heard this, she immediately gave away 3.5 Lakhs to his family to assist his treatment. In another incident, production manager Kamalakannan who worked for Chandramukhi and Billa had a major accident and Nayan donated 2 Lakhs for their treatment. Needless to say the families feel highly grateful to the star.

Ananthapurathu Veedu

Director Shankar’s home production, S Pictures is producing a film, titled Ananthapurathu Veedu. The film is directed by the popular television serial director Naga. Speaking about this film, Naga said that though Ananthapurathu Veedu belongs to the horror genre, there would be nothing horrific in the film. He said that it is about a supernatural being in a house.

According to Naga, the film will not create a fear as the horror films are supposed to do, but the audience will leve the theatres wishing for such a supernatural being in their homes. It is the goodness of this spirit that is highlighted in the film, he added. Ananthapurathu Veedu stars Nanda, Chaya Singh and Master Aryan.

Jai – Life after the ban in Goa!

That Jai has got permission from the Producers’ Council to star in the Soundarya Rajinikanth’s home production Goa is well known in Kollywood. Behindwoods also reported a few days ago that Rajinikanth played a pivotal role in getting the ban lifted so that Jai could act in the film.
Ochre Studio was doing the groundwork to set the ball rolling ever since the blanket permission was obtained. With everything set right and Jai having 20 days permission to act in Goa, the team is now ready to start filming the scenes involving him.

A.R. Rahman To Educate People

The electoral office in the national capital is trying to rope in playback singer A.R. Rahman to educate people about the benefits of elections and improve voter turnout for the Nov 29 assembly election.“Rahman has already given us permission to use one of his compositions for our awareness campaign. Now we are trying to rope him in personally to campaign for us and tell people to come out and vote,” said Satbir Silas Bedi, chief electoral officer of Delhi.

“We have written to him about this and expect a reply very soon,” Bedi told IANS.

The electoral office is using one of Rahman’s compositions, “Pappu can’t dance…” from the Bollywood movie “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na” for creating TV, radio and print adds to encourage voters to cast their ballots.

The campaign aims at creating awareness among 12 different segments of people who generally don’t vote.

“We want to create a sense of shame among people but tell this in a humorous way. Bollywood songs are a great means to reach the masses and in particular the youngsters.

“As a sequel to the awareness campaigns, we will hold few programmes with Mr. Rahman as the key attraction,” she said.

Bedi, however, clarified that the electoral office has made it clear to the singer that he will not get any remuneration for this.

“We cannot pay anything. We expect him to do this as a national responsibility. But lets see if he has time for this,” she added.

The voter turnout has been dwindling in Delhi over a period of time. While the 2002 assembly election saw little less than 50 percent turn out, the civic election last year saw 43 percent turn out.

There are 10.7 million eligible voters in the capital.

PERANMAI

Jananathan’s Peranmai is based on the theory that every thing in the world in interconnected, be it human beings or things in the nature. In a recent interview to a tabloid, Jana put forth this theory and explained it with an example - The mangrove forests in Muthupettai are being preserved with the help of funds from the Swiss government because due to the earth’s revolving the oxygen generated from the mangroves reach Switzerland and hence beneficial for the country.

The director also revealed that Vadivelu will be seen in one of his career-defining roles. “His role will serve as an eye-opener of sorts to the society after the movie is released,” Jana was quoted as saying to the tabloid.

Aadhavan

In Suriya’s next film Aadhavan, the actor will be donning the title role, according to director K.S. Ravi Kumar. Yet another interesting info that the director shared is that Suriya’s role is that of an anti hero. Besides, Aadhavan will have all the aspects such as sentiment, comedy and fights that his films usually have.

Nayanthara plays the leading lady in this venture, which is produced by Red Giant Movies. Apart from Suriya and Nayan, about 45 important actors and actresses will be a part of Aadhavan. Noted among them are Saroja Devi, Bollywood actor Rahul Dev, and Vadivelu. It is said that Vadivelu’s comedy is not be a separate track.

We did not get roles like Asin – Nayan

In a recent interview for a magazine, Nayanthara in her reply to a question regarding heroine oriented roles, stated that these days serials are more heroine centric, where powerful characters are portrayed by female leads on small screen, but in films it is always heroism that works.

The actress also added that in recent years only Asin was lucky enough to get such a role in Ghajini. But after that even Asin was not able sign up for such roles simply because such scripts were not available.

She stated that actresses like Trisha, Shriya and herself are willing to portray such prowess, if directors develop such a script for them, sighed the actress.

Rajinikanth distributes buttermilk

Superstar Rajinikanth usually visits his farm house in Kelambakkam when he is not working. Having completed the Endhiram schedule in Hyderabad, the actor visited his farm house recently. While on his visit, Rajini spotted his workers in the farm house toiling hard in the sun. The actor immediately advised his workers to distribute butter milk to them.

Extending his idea further, Rajini planned to distribute the butter milk to those passing the area. He had erected a shelter near his farm house and was seen distributing the butter milk personally. On coming to know that their star was doing this noble gesture the fans gathered in that place to have a glimpse of him.

AR rehman and his mac machine

One of the world’s most prolific and celebrated cinematic composers and top-selling recording artists, Rahman has scored more than 110 films, starting with Roja (1993) which was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 best movie soundtracks. He is an equally avid student of cutting edge music and technology, and he uses both to turn out scores and songs that seamlessly combine classical Indian and Western sounds with modern vocal and instrumental styles.

For “Slumdog Millionaire” Rahman blends Bollywood, hip-hop, world music and more to not only complement but significantly carry the film’s energetic plot and audience-pleasing themes. In a recent phone interview, Rahman spoke about how he used Logic and other tools to create his eclectic, ambitious score against unforgiving deadlines.

AYAN MOVIE REVIEW

It’s not everyday that you get to watch a gangster movie, with double-crosses, skillful smuggling, mother’s love and a romantic story tossed in, without having to squirm or probably having to end up with a headache. However, Ayan’s screenplay does the trick – brilliantly choreographed stunts and car chase sequences, cleverly planted twists at every nook and corner of the plot and some good music. Ayan proves to be an absolute timepass fare. For a little more than two hours, it would be an offense to call Ayan just another commercial potboiler.

Director K V Anand’s research is evident in the tightly packed screenplay and do not miss out the potshots he takes at a few directors in the name of plagiarism.

Slipping logic into your wallet would be a good idea before entering the halls, but it’s unlikely that you would regret doing so. And it is highly doubtful that you would have any time to think about it during the course of the movie. Well, pardon the second half for dragging a wee bit though.

The movie starts off with Surya giving a little tongue-lash for Corporate Houses for treating their employees as mushrooms. A minute later, we realize that he is the trustworthy ally of Prabhu, whose business thrives on illegal diamond trafficking from Africa. With clever strategies and an M Sc degree, Surya flies across the globe to transport consignments sneaking in and out of the airport scanners in style. That’s pretty much the story - and comes with it the evil motives of Akashdeep Segal, a fellow smuggler who crosses road with the Prabhu & Company. Gang war, a friend’s death, love and some dance sequences – Ayan culminates into a rather predictable climax.

The first half of the movie travels at a supersonic’s pace with rollicking humor (sample this: Renuka, Surya’s mother, having filled up an SSC (Staff Selection Commission) application form, asks for his sign at the breakfast table. She returns from the kitchen and drops the dosa in horror only to find out that her son has used the application form to collect all the left over chicken bones). Not to mention, Jegan’s natural sense of humor that hugely helps the movie’s progress. Ayan also spells out director Anand’s conscious effort to avoid clichés, scene after scene, with good reason. The first half also defies the rule of gangster movies with Surya justifying his job to be just ‘time pass’.

And the second half witnesses Surya doubling up as an assistant to the Narcotic Controls Office. Besides, it was also an atrocious idea to include a Koena Mitra item number out of the blue. With her weird nose-job and chiseled cleavage, she does some aerobics. The climax peaks Anand’s unleashed imagination.

Surya and Tamannah make a good pair and their love story is devoid of any clichés whatsoever thankfully. And the brilliant writing in their second meet up scene sparks up their chemistry. Prabhu is quite a natural in his role and his Chennai Senthamizh comes handy. The roles of Jegan and Renuka are beautifully developed and performed.

The only eyesore in the movie is Akashdeep Segal, who with his convoluted facial expressions and bad lip sync just doesn’t get anything right.

Harris’s music is scintillating in the Nenje and Iyaayiye songs and the background score flows with the movie. In the Vizhi moodi number Karthik sizzles. Another noteworthy aspect of Ayan is M.S.Prabhu’s cinematography. Congo’s rustic landscape, Puducherry’s by-lanes and Malaysia’s scenic locales come alive in the screen.

Ayan is fun. Just buy a huge bag of popcorn, a can of cola and have a blast! But do remember the first step about the logic.

Verdict: Packs a punch
